Why we built this
Most online calculators are bloated with ads, popups, and tracking pixels. Prefertools is the opposite: a small set of focused tools that load fast, run entirely in your browser, and respect your privacy. The same five tools we wish we had when we needed them.
What we make
The site hosts five tools today. A custom Frappuccino nutrition calculator with two seasonal summer 2026 builds (Strato and Firework). A fire weather and air quality dashboard that pulls from Open-Meteo. A moon phase lookup with birthday moon support. And the homepage that ties them together.
How the data is sourced
Nutrition values on the drink pages are estimates based on standard builds. They are designed to be directionally correct — swap to almond milk and the calorie total drops by 80, request sugar-free vanilla and 15 grams of sugar disappear. For the air quality dashboard, we read live data from the Open-Meteo Air Quality API and Open-Meteo Forecast API, both free public services that combine the Copernicus CAMS global model with national monitoring stations.
Privacy
Every tool runs entirely in your browser. We do not collect, store, or transmit any data to our own servers. The air quality dashboard does make a request to Open-Meteo to fetch the AQI for your location, and an optional IP-based fallback call to get.geojs.io if you deny geolocation. That is the only network traffic the site generates beyond the page itself.
Roadmap
New drink pages are next: caramel-ribbon-crunch-frappuccino, mocha-cookie-crumble-frappuccino, vanilla-bean-frappuccino. Then Q&A content pages on what a Frappuccino is and how much caffeine one contains. Long-term, we are considering an Astro migration so each drink has its own dynamic route and proper OG images.
